If you aren’t familiar with the gloomy inner workings of your car, choosing the right mechanic can be downright intimidating. It’s difficult to know where to go, who to trust and whether you’re being taken for a ride. In the past the most powerful tool at your disposal was word of mouth, and the advice of family and friends. That’s still true today, but that source of advice has expanded from your immediate family and friends to the whole of the Internet.

Almost as apt as having taken auto shop in high school.

RepairPal is a satisfactory starting point if you’re unfamiliar with many aspects of automotive repair. It allows you to plug in the make and model of your car and the needed repair, and then outputs a reasonable imprint range you could ask to pay, breaking it down into labor and parts. It seems to be fairly suitable judging by a few test cases, so if a mechanic quotes you something that is too far out of the ballpark you will want to inquire as to why. It’s possible that the mechanic is including parts in his estimate that RepairPal hasn’t considered, for example replacing a worn serpentine belt along with a bad alternator, since the belt must be removed in order to replace the alternator. The site also allows users to post reviews of specific shops, which can help you narrow down the field.

Finding word of mouth on the Internet: everyone has an idea and they’re more than happy to share.

Sites like Yelp and Citysearch also allow members to post reviews on local businesses, including mechanics. It’s always worth remembering that someone who has had a bad experience is more likely to complain than someone who had a excellent experience is to praise, so if a shop has one bad review don’t necessarily count them out. Pay attention to what people are saying on these sites, such as what hourly or ‘flat rate’ the shop charges, whether they exercise reputable parts suppliers, what types of cars they work on and what type of work they do. Some shops only work on Japanese imports, some shops specialize on only transmissions, and others can steal care of any pickle you might have.

Another good source of information is Mapquest, Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps. Using these services you can search an area around your home or work for mechanics, and many of them will have reviews posted similar to sites like Yelp and Citysearch. This is useful since it gives you a visual idea of how convenient a shop might be.

When all else fails, check with consumer advocacy groups.

A good way to weed out trouble shops is to see if they have any complaints through your local Better Business Bureau. Many shops won’t actually be members of the BBB, but the BBB will tranquil have records of if there were any disputes and how they were handled. The BBB now has a very convenient online search to look up this exact information. If you search for a specific business you will be able to see a slate of information on that business, including a letter grade that has been assigned to them, whether there have been any complaints in the last 36 months, and whether those complaints were resolved.

An excellent source of consumer information is the Consumer Checkbook, which publishes in seven areas around the country: Boston, Chicago, Delaware Valley, Puget Sound, San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose, Twin Cities, and Washington, DC. Unlike the other services mentioned so far the Consumer Checkbook requires a subscription fee, which covers both a print version and access to all the data on their website. They have actually accumulated data from proper customers of area mechanics, along with many other products and services, and rated them based on different factors, including consumer satisfaction and cost, to give you an idea of what area shops are charging per hour, or flat rate.

What’s the deal with “flat rate” anyway?

Flat rate is the method by which most mechanics calculate the labor for which you are charged. They have a flat rate manual, or more likely a computer program, which contains data on how much time it is supposed to recall to perform any given repair. In practice a unimaginative mechanic can take many times longer than flat rate, while a fast mechanic who has done the operation many times might be able to ‘beat’ flat rate. However, the flat rate multiplied by the shop’s hourly rate is what you will be charged in either case. There are two main sources of information for flat rate estimation: Nichols Chiltons, and Alldata, and the two sometimes can differ substantially. Very few shops own both systems, so one possible explanation of a difference in flat rate estimates is that one shop is using one while another shop is using the other.

Using information gleaned from these and other online tools and sources, as well as the all-powerful recommendations of friends and family, you should be able to confidently choose your mechanic even if you don’t know the difference between a spark plug and a wheel lug.

Often, person to person it is difficult to keep up with the barrage of auto insurance lingo that will come your procedure from an insurance agent, so this article is going to break down the meaning of ten different auto insurance terms. This will ensure that the next time you are purchasing a policy you will be one hundred percent clear on what your coverage is all about.

The Blue Book

Many times I have encountered friends who hear the term blue book and immediately conjure up the belief that it is a “Who’s Who” book of the variety often flashed in retro-TV shows. However, for the purpose of auto insurance, the blue book is a book that contains the value of used cars and trucks taking into account depreciation. Your auto insurance company will spend the value from this book to determine the amount of insurance coverage you need.

Covered Person

A covered person in insurance is anyone who is stated as being covered on your insurance policy. This will include the person who purchased the policy, and in many cases a spouse or another close relative. In some cases, people assume that anyone who drives their car will be covered under their auto insurance policy, but this is not always the case. It is always best to check with your agent if you are unsure about who is and who isn’t a covered person on your policy.

Discounts

Yes, we all know what discounts are at the grocery store, but when it comes to car insurance they are slightly different. Many insurance companies have “discounts” that are based on measures you have taken to protect your automobile from situations such as theft.

Premium

A premium is not to be confused with a quote. The premium is the actual money that you pay for your insurance policy whereas a quote usually provides you with the premium you would pay for insurance with any given company.

Rental Reimbursement

Rental Reimbursement is typically a policy “add-on.” If you go for minimum coverage, you likely do not have rental reimbursement. If you do have it however, rental reimbursement means that while you have a covered claim you are provided with a rental car within your policies specified limit.

Limits

The term limits can be slightly confusing, as insurance policy minimum limits vary from state to state within the U.S. When you engage a policy, you choose the limit of the coverage the policy will pay in the event of an accident. You may choose to stay at the state mandated minimum level or opt for extra coverage.

Declarations Page

Declaration’s page actually refers to the section of your bill that most of us would consider a summary of our policy, because that is in fact what it is. It lays out all of the basic information related to our policy including coverage limits, vehicles, and extra coverage options.

Deductibles

A deductible refers to the amount you would pay upfront if you were in an accident. If you are willing to pay more upfront in this event, then you could have a lower premium or insurance payment. However, should an accident occur, the money will come from your wallet!

Full Coverage

Full coverage is not technically a type of coverage or a stated opinion. When a friend tells you they have full coverage on their vehicle they typically mean they have more than the spot requires or more than basic liability coverage.

Continuously Insured

To be continuously insured means that there has not been a span where you were without insurance coverage. If you have been doing consistent business with one insurer for a length of time, this can lead to a discount on your insurance policy if you have been a good driver.

These ten terms are not the only ambiguous or misunderstood terms on an insurance policy. If there are other terms you don’t understand then never hesitate to call your insurance provider or agent and ask for clarification. Being an informed consumer can establish you hassles in the future should you ever be in auto accident.

Source:

Personal experiences as an informed consumer. I have always asked questions and always derive answers.

It is very important to carry car insurance these days, we all know that! Driving with out car insurance is not only against the law in most states, but carries serious consequences. However, when you have decided that it is finally time to get car insurance, or maybe you unprejudiced want to shop for better coverage and rates, it is important to be prepared. As a licensed insurance producer, who is accustomed to preparing car insurance quotes for people on a daily basis, I can help you make your car insurance shopping experience easy and pain free with the following tips.

Do your research and beget a list!
One of the most important things to do is to shop around and find which insurance companies have been around the longest and are the most trusted, or will suit your insurance needs the best. Ask your friends and family about their experiences with different insurance companies, and why they use the company they are with, or check consumer reports. Effect yourself a list of phone numbers of the companies that you would like to call and the websites that you want to visit for on-line quotes. The list will serve you analyze your quotes and to not regain them or the insurance companies confused. After you have prepared yourself a list of insurance companies to contact, it is important to have your personal information ready so that the person you are speaking with can give you an accurate and easy estimate of how much your car insurance will be.

Have your personal information ready!
From personal experience, I know that the person preparing the insurance quote will ask for the following things: Name, Address, Date of Birth, Phone Number, Social Security Number, Driver’s License number, make, model, and year of your vehicle, and Vin number or serial number of your vehicle, as well as all of the same personal information for all other drivers in the house own, and name of prior insurance company if you had one. After you have given them the information, in most cases, they will run a motor vehicle record check to peek how many tickets or accidents you’ve had in the last 3-5 years. Be patient and kind to the person helping you with your quote. Please understand that sometimes technology doesn’t work as swiftly as they would like it to and these things do lift time. Car insurance premium rates are based on many different factors, for example: age, driving experience, marital status, year and type of vehicle, driver exposure, etc. . . These different factors are the reasons for all of the personal questions. Finally, when the person who is preparing your quote has finished asking these personal questions, it’s your turn to start asking the questions!

Don’t be horrified to ask questions!
Write some questions down before the quote process if you’re a nervous person or just can’t remember what questions to ask. Ask them some important questions like: What kind of coverages are you offering? What types of liability coverages can you offer me? What types of payment plans do you offer? What will my premium be annually, monthly, or every 6 months? What will my deductibles be and how do they affect my premium rate? What kind of discounts can I receive? What do I do in the case of an accident or a claim? It is very essential that you know what you are paying for when you are buying car insurance, and what kind of service your insurance company can provide!

Getting car insurance quotes doesn’t have to be difficult or even painful. In fact, if you are someone who enjoys shopping and talking to new people, it can even be fun! Follow the 3 easy tips that I have listed above and your car insurance shopping experience should be an easy and pain free one.

When looking for auto insurance we all want the same thing – to do money. This is especially moral given the new economic times. However, the current trend is to scour the internet searching for the best deal in car insurance. This, while useful at times, is often confusing, time consuming and even overwhelming – it would take days to search through all the available auto agencies online. Therefore, it is often much easier and more time effective to search the old fashioned way, pull out the phone book and call local agencies for. Searching among local insurance agents often offers various benefits.

Everyone, it seems, guarantees that they will set aside you money on your current insurance rates. Geico promises 15% or more, Progressive promises to compare quotes for you to find you the best rate; Allstate promises “you will put more”; Situation Farm promises the “best rates”; and the list continues on. Undoubtedly, all these companies, and many others, honestly are interested in saving you money, they want your business and in order to accept your business they have to be competitive in their pricing.

Nevertheless, almost all these companies’ websites use fairly generic information forms when generating your car insurance quotes. These estimated quotes are often grand higher than what they would be if you where to actually visit these agencies in person or speak with an agent. These is because local insurance agents also want your business, often more so than a national company, and are aware of the prices online and are likely to be wiling to do whatever they can to beat any online price you may find. A good example of this is my experience with Allstate.

When I entered my information into Allstate’s online quote estimator the estimate was just over $1000 every six months or $180 a month. My wife and I have two cars, and have totaled one with in the last year, and have been in three other accidents (it has been a banner year). However, when I went into a local Allstate agent’s office he quoted me an insurance premium which was much less: $790 for six months or $132.38 a month. I was surprised at the difference. This may not always be the case, but often is. If you are truly looking for the best auto insurance rate available to you it would be worth your while to devote at least half of your looking efforts towards local agencies. Sometimes the best deals are with local car insurance agents who sell for a larger national company.

Automobile insurance is a diverse feature which is sometimes complex to define. Usually, auto insurance premiums veil the vehicle, the bodily injury of the driver, values items in the vehicle as well as injury of other passengers in the vehicle at the time of accident. In order to avoid insurance frauds of compensation claims, insurance firms interpret a code of agreement that substantiates what coverage entails. In the US, some states require that vehicle owners subscribe to a liability insurance coverage that covers cost of injury or death of persons and damage of property in the event of an accident. Where the insurance camouflage contains coverage of persons other than the driver of the vehicle, there are set governing rules to define how these people are eligible for compensations. Some of these rules may include the considerations that the other persons should not live at the same address as the policy holder. The rules may also include the number of people who may be liable of compensations whenever an accident occurs. This implies that, if a car is involved in an accident, and the passenger exceeds the covered number, this means that not all are eligible for the compensation. This is a complex issue that may involve inter-party confrontations and legal disputes.

Liability coverage usually entails the coverage of the driver and any other passenger who may be involved in the vehicle accident as well as damage of the vehicle and any famous in the car as defined by the owner. These coverage may be included in one package as combined ‘single limit’ cover or separated as ‘split limit liability’ cover’. A combined single limit cover usually puts together bodily injury and property damage in one liability coverage. On the other hand, split limit liability coverage usually breaks up property damage and personal injuries in independent liability covers.

Besides liability cover, auto insurance may entail full coverage. This takes into account many factors including full payment of a vehicle incase of irrepairable damages. Collision coverage puts into consideration costs of damage and any other cost that may be attached to the damaged vehicle. It is usually suitable for persons who have been granted auto loans. It may entail payment to repair the vehicle or a total cash value to buy another vehicle depending on the magnitude of harm caused to the car. Not all insurance firms offer this coverage and it differs from one state to another. Collision coverage is optional in Florida.

Full coverage also entails a Comprehensive coverage which offers an auto mobile insurance policy camouflage for a vehicle which is damaged by accidents which are not considered collisions or vehicle accidents. These kind of accidents involve fire, theft, bad weather, accidents with animals among others. In a nut shell, Full coverage is used to refer to both Comprehensive and Collision coverage and its exercise has raised a lot of concern within insurance firms and some do not use the terms in their coverage to avoid any misinterpretations..

There are expenses that can be categorized as a need and a want, and car insurance these days fall under need. For you to be given a apt right to drive, you must have car insurance. You might be thinking that this can cost you a lot of money and will just be an additional expense, but in case you don’t know, there are ways in which you can collect this type of insurance at a lower rate.

The first step that you need to select is to make a comparison between the rates of several auto insurance companies. This may look easy, but you may need to exert a lot of effort in determining which among the quotes that you were able to catch is the best. You have to look deeply into the rates, terms and coverage of the car insurance as well as its additional features like accident forgiveness and road assistance service.

You may catch car insurance from the company where you have availed your life, health and home insurance and you will procure a discount for determined. However, if you have teens living in your home, they will not be covered by the car insurance unless you get them a separate policy. This is because teens are aggressive drivers and they are more prone to accidents.

The rate of your insurance depends greatly on the kind of car that you have. Expensive or luxury cars have higher premiums for they are hot in the eyes of bandits that is why it would be a good notion to first ask insurance agents how much will it cost you for the car that you intend to purchase.

This article will snappily explain how to get the best motorcycle insurance rates. It explains in tedious English, what you need to know before you start shopping for motorcycle insurance.

Speedily Tip: The first company you should check with for motorcycle insurance is your car or home or life insurance company because they usually give discounts for current customers.

Best Motorcycle Insurance Companies with free online quotes

To get online quotes, you really have 2 major choices: Geico and Progressive.

Geico is known for their outstanding customer service. If you get into an accident, expect an agent to display up with a laptop the same day or at least the next day.

Progressive also is known for honorable customer service. When choosing between Geico or Progressive for motorcycle insurance, go with the better rate. You can expect both companies to take good care of you.

If you’re happy with the online motorcycle insurance rate, then go with the one you like. You’ll be done.

However, you can sometimes save money by calling a local insurance broker. They can find less well-known companies that offer lower rates (because they don’t advertise like Geico and Progressive). Simply check your phone book (or go to superpages.com), and look for “Insurance Broker” or “Brokers: Insurance”.

Understanding Motorcycle Insurance

Very often you will come across a set of three numbers like this: 20/50/25. Here’s what those motorcycle insurance numbers mean.

Bodily Injury/Property Damage/Personal Injury (in $1000′s)

1. Bodily Injury – If you hurt someone else. Your motorcycle insurance will cover their medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering for that amount.

2. Property Damage – If you crash into someone’s property (car, bike, house, etc), this is how much your motorcycle insurance will pay to repair it.

3. Personal Injury Protection – This is for you. If you get hurt, this is the fragment that gets you attend on your feet.

Ironically, most insurance has higher coverage for property than people. Perhaps the bean counters don’t consider people that valuable.

Simple Example

20/50/25
Them/Their Property/You

Your motorcycle insurace will mask their injuries up to $20,000. It covers their property up to $50,000. And, it covers your injuries up to $25,000.

How much can I expect to pay?

Here are the big factors affecting how much motorcycle insurance costs.

Your Age: Motorcyclists 25+ salvage better rates, under 25 gather higher
Engine Size: A 600cc engine has higher motorcylce insurance than a 250cc engine
Bike Type: Sports bikes (like the Ninja) cost more
The Bike’s Cost: A brand new bike will cost more than a used bike
Your driving record: If you have a history of accidents, your rate will be higher
Your experience: If you’re new to riding motorcycles, your insurance will be higher
Garage or Outside: If you keep it in a garage, your rate will be lower

So, that should set you up to know the basics of getting the best motorcycle insurance rate. Check out the websites below for more information on getting the best motorcycle insurance.

A few million years ago, some amino acids had been swirling around in the primordial oceans By means of (depending on your specific belief system) evolution or God’s Helping Hand, they slowly became extra complex, developed limbs and organs, learned how to breathe air and walk on dry land, and eventually developed into the self-conscious blobs of protoplasm that we refer to as ourselves This is a delightful turn of affairs for insurance salesmen, toothpaste manufacturers, and Bill Gates, simply because amino acids don’t purchase a large number of of their products Yet, it doesn’t take a lot imagination to see that neither God nor Charles Darwin had significantly of a background in product development Frankly, if human beings had been created and built by General Motors, they would have been recalled lengthy ago.

Let’s look at a few examples For 1 thing, we have two kidneys, but 1 will suffice very nicely And yet we have only 1 liver, and it has to struggle to procedure even a moderate quantity of liquor–say, a quart a day We have only 1 heart, and yet it is quickly damaged by every thing from fried pork rinds to emotional tension Our nostrils are so tiny that a few germs or chunks of pollen can trigger them to plug up with crusty wads of snot When that occurs, we should switch the breathing function over to our mouths, which are primarily suited for noise generation and food insertion. We are subject to all sorts of painful and hideous diseases, which doesn’t say significantly for our self-diagnostic and intruder rejection systems We also develop warts and moles, lose our teeth and hair, and get wrinkly and weak as we get old We can’t fly, can’t even outrun an alligator, and aren’t especially very good swimmers We can’t go longer than a few days with out water or a few minutes with out air And why the hell do men have nipples? It gets worse We’re inherently insane, which may perhaps be due to the reality that four-fifths of our brains sit around performing nothing all day As a result, we devote our lives to meaningless careers, marry men and women who believe we’re excess baggage on the train of life, and dismember every other just for the fun of it We look to leaders to tell us what to do and how to live, never noticing that these leaders are much more insane and perverted than we are, which is why they wanted to be leaders in the very first place We are completely confused about sex and define virtuous men and women as those who look and act like they never perform it And we are in total denial about our own mortality, preferring to believe that death can be derailed by bean sprouts and a Nordic Trak Obviously, we took a wrong turn somewhere. Two paths lie just before us The initial is to continue as we have for millions of years, relying on God’s Dubious Plan or, alternatively, the crap game of chance mutation and natural selection Or we can take matters into our own hands and whip up some genetic combinations that result in beings who truly deserve to live. Now, I’m not suggesting that we can produce perfection overnight We are, after all, beginning with a sow’s ear But we can incrementally enhance the gene pool with selective modifications If we make a few mistakes along the way, so what Numerous genetic mistakes are walking among us now–some of your own family members almost certainly come to mind Let’s begin modestly 1st, we can put most of the medical profession out of enterprise by improving our physical design Two hearts would be nice, and an industrial-strength immune system that kills off every thing from head lice to herpes And just for amusement, we could present all future women with ideal breasts and cellulite-totally free thighs, and give all men 12-inch, bone-buttressed genitalia, plus gonads that recycle in 3 minutes (roughly the time it takes to drink a beer) That alone would maintain us occupied by means of the extended lifespan that we have produced.Later on, we can tap into the idle parts of the brain, thereby phasing out gross stupidity and overt insanity True, this is likely to eliminate such colorful characters as axe murderers, politicians, and televangelists, but that appears like a little price to pay On the positive side, we may possibly see USPS workers who do not crack under the pressure of so a large number of Zip codes, Wendy’s employees who can put the proper stuff in a bag, and IRS accountants joining monasteries to atone for their sins. Finally, we could aim for specialization: eight-ounce human spiders for space travel, waiters with multiple arms, gill-equipped people today for undersea exploration, winged messengers, and coal miners with difficult shells and claws The possibilities are limitless In 10,000 years, people today may possibly look back on this age as the true dawn of the human race–the threshold when we threw off our ape-like existence and leaped into the multiplicity of forms that we had been destined to turn into.To get started, we will need to open a few genetic manipulation clinics where young and fertile folks can specify what qualities their offspring really should possess If, like yours genuinely, you are beyond the prime child-bearing years, you can basically donate your youngsters to the Bugbaum Union for Genetic Selection (BUGS), c/o Stationmaster, Greyhound Lines, Upiers, NJ (Please contain a monetary donation in case they get hungry.) We will take care of the rest Soon, you will be the grandparent of a person who, with a bit of luck, isn’t anything like you!As we all know, once a new technology comes into being, it is just a matter of time prior to it gains widespread acceptance We ought to accept this 1 with open arms–all six of them .

Many people need to purchase car insurance for cars that they do not own. If you are going to be driving a particular vehicle, you legally must insure it. This may not be the case if the owner is maintaining a policy on the car. However, it is popular for those who loan a vehicle to you to expect you to accumulate the car insured. This is also true of a leased vehicle.

Start the process of looking for insurance by gathering up all of the needed information about the car.

You will need several pieces of information to be able to insure an automobile. Begin with making sure that you know the make, model, and year of the car. One of the first questions you must answer is regarding what kind and age of car will you be insuring. If you are not a car buff, you will want to consult the owner’s manual that is hopefully in the glove box. If not, ask the owner to provide you with these details.

Find the Vehicle Identification Number for the car.

This number is not usually too tough to discover. On most cars, today, it is found on a plate on the dash that can be read through the windshield. Most often, it is on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The door on the driver’s side should also have the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) printed on a plate on the panel that holds the lock that keeps the door shut. The VIN will be series of letters and numbers that reveal the age and options of the car. Insurance companies can spend this to track the accident history of the car.

You need to know the mileage and condition of the car.

More than likely, you will be expected to buy the legally required liability insurance and also the owner required collision insurance. The insurer will want to know about the condition of the glass, paint, and body of the car. Also, if the car is high mileage, this lowers the value and can affect the premiums. Remember, the insurance company has the option to simply declare the car a total wreck if the repair bill exceeds the value of the car.

Be prepared to portray how you will use the vehicle.

Car insurers want to know if you will be using the car for work purposes or simple transportation and pleasure. The number of miles that you anticipate driving annually will be requested. They may ask how the car will be parked. That is, will it be in a garage or carport, in a driveway, or on the street?

Another type of non-owned auto insurance relates to businesses who must insure employees’ cars that are used for company purposes.

If a driver has a shatter in their personal automobile while on company business, the company can be required to absorb some of the liability for the accident. Businesses and churches purchase non-owned auto insurance as a section of their casualty insurance on their property and business. This insurance is secondary to the car owner’s policy and generally increases the liability coverage to a level that protects the assets and interests of the company. The easiest way to get this type of coverage is to ask your agent at the time when other insurance needs are being purchased.
